Faversham to star in gritty crime thriller Southcliffe on Channel 4 tonight

Faversham is set to take a starring role in the latest crime drama, airing tonight.

Channel 4's Southcliffe was based in Faversham for four months, with scenes shot across the whole town.

Homes, town centre streets and neighbouring marshland were all used to film the crime drama.

Scenes were also filmed at Sittingbourne police station, JK Hair in the High Street, Teynham Court Farm as well as a house in Avent Walk, Bapchild.

The last piece of filming in Faversham took place at the beginning of December, with the shooting thought to have injected around £500,000 into the local economy.

Initial niggles regarding parking in the town were soon resolved and the filming was deemed a great success by those involved.

The drama hit the headlines last year when Faversham residents mistook filming for a real life crime scene on their doorsteps.

The Faversham News office was also used as one of the locations with staff all appearing as extras alongside the stars of the show.

A tough, modern thriller, the drama was specifically written for Faversham to be the fictional town of Southcliffe.

It will star Skyfall and Quantum of Solace star Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris who played Fifield in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi film Prometheus and Shirley Henderson who played Jude in Bridget Jones’s Diary and Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Southcliffe will be shown on Channel 4 at 9pm tonight. source : kentonline
